Yum Studio collaborated with Alchemy Community Theatre to stage a play by Australian playwright Chris Dickins entitled Sanctuary. A theatre and multimedia performance piece, Sanctuary was inspired by the experiences of the Forgotten Australians, the thousands of people who grew up in institutional care and out of home care throughout Australia.

Our creative director, Erin, undertook the role of multimedia director and worked with Child and Family Services Ballarat’s History and Heritage Service to source archival photographs, memorabilia and text that were then created into stunning and evocative multimedia artworks.

These works were incorporated into the live performance work using fixed and portable projectors. We also had the privilege to work with a former resident of the Ballarat Children’s Home to create a digital story that document her experience of growing up in the care system – Deborah Findlay.

Yum Studio is proud to have contributed to this important Australian work and continues to support Sanctuary’s development.

“Erin was a delight to work with. Her vision for the production was clearly identified and she realised her vision with great flair and creativity. Erin was able to capture the essence of the script and tell the stories of the characters through her carefully selected and beautifully projected still and moving images.”
